Lightning Strike Policy
We follow the “30/30 rule” which is we close the pool for 30 minutes if the time between a lightning strike and the thunderclap is 30 seconds or less. This is equal to a 10-mile radius. We use WeatherBug Spark as our data source.
In the event of a closure extending past 5:00 PM, East Park Pool will reopen as soon as conditions are safe, with staffing levels adjusted based on expected demand and safety requirements. While lane swimming will be prioritized after 6:00 PM, we will aim to maintain at least partial open swim access.
